Privacy Policy

What's changing.

1. Who We Are

AccuCV ("we", "us", "our") operates the AccuCV AI resume tailoring service at accucv.ca. We are the data controller for personal information collected through the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account information. When you register, Clerk (our authentication provider) collects your email address and, optionally, your name and profile picture. We receive a unique user identifier and basic profile data from Clerk.

Payment information. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never receive or store your full credit card number. Stripe shares with us your billing status, subscription ID, and Stripe customer ID.

Usage records. Each time you generate a resume or run a career tool, we record when it happened, which AI model handled it and how much processing it used. We use these records to enforce plan limits, credit referral bonuses, manage our costs and detect abuse. If you rate a resume or send us feedback, we store that too.

Resume and profile data. Your professional profile (work history, skills, education, contact details), your saved resumes and your career tool reports are stored on our servers, associated with your account. Job descriptions and target roles you enter are transmitted to our servers and may be stored as part of a saved resume or report. This data is also sent to Anthropic during AI generation (see Section 4).

Analytics and error data. Vercel Web Analytics gives us aggregate counts of page visits. Sentry records technical details when something goes wrong. See Sections 5 and 9.

Advertising measurement data. Where you have allowed it, or have not turned it off (see Section 9), we record which of our ads or campaigns brought you to AccuCV, the page you arrived on and the site that linked you to us, and our advertising partners receive limited information about your visit and a few actions you take.

Log data. Our hosting infrastructure (Vercel) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, request timestamps, and pages visited. These logs are retained for up to 30 days.

3. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We never give our advertising partners your name, email address, resume, profile, job descriptions or career tool reports.

4. AI Processing of Your Resume Data

When you click "Generate Resume", we transmit the job description and your professional profile (work history, education, skills, etc.) to Anthropic, PBC via their API to generate tailored resume content using the Claude language model.

What we leave out. That request does not include your name, email address, phone number or LinkedIn URL. The resume we return is put together with your contact details in your browser, so they are never part of what we send. The career tools work the same way, with one exception: they also receive the city you entered, because the advice they give about a local job market depends on it.

Importing a resume is different. If you fill in your profile by uploading or pasting an existing resume rather than typing it, we send that document's text to Anthropic so it can be read into the fields above, and that text contains whatever contact details you put in it. It is processed under the same terms and is not used for training. Typing your details in directly avoids this.

This data is processed under Anthropic's Privacy Policy and API Terms of Service. Anthropic's commercial API does not use submitted inputs to train its models.

Trying the Service without an account. On /try you can paste a resume and a job posting to see a sample of what we would change, before creating an account. That text is sent to Anthropic in the same way and under the same terms as above. We do not store it, and we do not associate it with any account: once the sample has been returned, the only record we keep is a count of how many previews ran and what they cost us, with no resume text, no job posting and no identifier for you. If the sample cannot be read back from the model, up to 300 characters of the model's own output may reach our error monitoring (Section 5).

5. Service Providers and Advertising Partners

We share your information with the following service providers solely to operate the Service:

Our service providers are contractually required to process your data only as directed by us and in accordance with applicable privacy law.

Advertising partners. Where permitted (see Section 9), we share limited information with the following companies to measure and deliver our advertising. Unlike our service providers, they also use it for their own purposes, such as operating and improving their advertising systems, under their own privacy policies:

6. International Data Transfers

AccuCV is operated from Canada. Our service providers and advertising partners may be based in or process data in the United States or other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place — such as data processing agreements and standard contractual clauses — in accordance with applicable data protection law, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area.

7. Data Retention

Information our advertising partners receive is retained under their own privacy policies.

8. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable data protection law — including the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), Canada's federal and provincial privacy legislation, and equivalent laws in other jurisdictions:

To exercise these rights, use the self-service tools on our Account & Data page or contact us at privacy@accucv.ca. We will respond within 30 days. If you believe we have not responded adequately, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

9. Cookies and Tracking

Essential. Clerk sets cookies that keep you signed in. We store your theme, language and privacy choices in your browser. These are always on because the Service needs them.

Analytics. Vercel Web Analytics counts page visits in aggregate, along with the referring site, browser, device type and approximate location. It does not use cookies to identify you: it groups a visit using a short-lived hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and it cannot follow you across other websites. Sentry records technical details when an error occurs.

Advertising measurement. We use the Meta Pixel, the Reddit Pixel and the Google tag on our public marketing pages, such as the home and pricing pages. They never run on sign-in pages or inside the signed-in app, where your resume and profile are. When active, they set cookies and record your visits to those pages. If you arrive through one of our ads, we also keep the ad click identifier and campaign details from the link, the page you arrived on, and the site that linked you to us.

When you create an account, generate your first resume, start checkout or buy a plan, our servers report that event to our advertising partners. The report contains the event and its time, a random event ID, the ad click identifier if you arrived through an ad, your IP address and browser user agent, the partner's own browser identifier if its tag has set one, and, for purchases, the price and currency. It never contains your name, email address, resume, profile, job descriptions or career tool reports.

Our advertising partners use this to tell us which ads work, to decide who is shown our ads, and to show our ads to people who have visited AccuCV.

Your choices.

We work out your approximate location from your IP address on each visit, only to apply these rules, and do not store it for this purpose. Some US state privacy laws treat sharing identifiers with advertising partners as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; turning advertising measurement off opts you out of it.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at privacy@accucv.ca and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
